Early Preschool & Pre K

Ages:3-4 & 4-5

Explore the Early
Pre-K & Pre K. Classroom

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step: kindergarten!

Explore the Pre-K classroom

Take a look at how we set up our classrooms for early pre-k & pre-k. It’s organized for their age and stage of learning and development

Open-ended questions

As your preschooler moves through their day, they’ll hear a lot of open-ended questions. For example, instead of saying, “Paint your flower petals with red and yellow,” we might ask, “What color would you paint your flower?” It’s a small change that makes a big difference in building your child’s confidence

Preschoolers play their way

For much of the day, kids create, play, pretend, and express themselves their way! This kind of independent play builds critical thinking skills, self-reliance, and confidence for life

Writing the ABCs

In pre-K, your child will practice how to write their name—and you’ll start to see it all over their artwork! We’ll also work on our ABCs, using letters and drawings to describe things like people, places, experiences, and feelings

Friends and feelings

Social skills are a big focus in pre-K as your child gets ready for kindergarten. Your child will work on talking through big feelings and resolving conflicts with words. They’ll also talk about themselves and their families, and learn about each other’s similarities and differences

Curriculum

Early Pre-K & Pre-K Curriculum

Our incredible teachers are here to offer the safest place and most inspiring learning environment for you preschooler. Your child will practice language, math, science, Spanish, and social skills through hands-on learning and playtime

Your prekindergartner’s mind is ready for simple addition, subtraction, and science predictions! That’s why we build the cognitive skills they need for math and science. They’ll also participate in at least two hours of movement each day.

Prekindergartners practice resolving conflicts with words on their own or with a teacher’s help. We also teach kindness and respect by helping kids talk about themselves and their families, so they learn to appreciate each other’s differences and similarities.

Children tell stories with a beginning, middle, and end! We practice writing as a form of expression, whether your child can write words like their full name or is still working on the first letter of their name.

Creative expression really comes alive at this age! Kids can express themselves with all the art mediums, follow multi-step directions while moving around, and play instruments while making up songs!

Inside A Early Pre-K Day

Toddlers are ready to learn how to follow a daily rhythm with their class! At each center, our incredible teachers create a schedule that works for their room. See below for a general example.

It’s so nice to see everyone this morning! As children arrive, they are welcomed by smiling teachers. They can eat breakfast and play quietly while they wait for their friends to arrive. Time: Open-8:45am

The start to our day is when we come together as a group to welcome each other and talk briefly about the day’s planned events. We will also do things like read a book out loud or sing a song! We go over all colors, shapes, number 1-20, alphabet & sounds, Days of the week, and months of the year. Time: 8:45-10am

It’s time to have a quick healthy snack to recharge our bodies.  Time: 10am-10:20am

It’s time to go outside! Mostly little ones play on their own, using their imaginations. Outdoor time can also be part of our daily themed activity. Time: 10:30-11am

Large Group are an important part of our classrooms, and usually involve group activities. Your child will do things like play with blocks, experiment with creative arts, engage in dramatic play, read, do age-appropriate math or science activities, or write. 11am-11:30am

Time to wash our hands and get ready to eat lunch! Time: 11:30-12pm

Ssshh … it’s quiet time. Most children will nap, but if they wake up (or if they never quite get to sleep), they can select different quiet activities, such as looking at books or playing with puzzles. Time: 12pm-2pm

They’ll have a nutritious snack like apples and crackers. 2pm-2:20pm

The classroom comes together to do a group activity! This can be Math, Science, Social Studies or Fine Motor Skills. 2:30-3:00pm

The classroom comes together to do a group activity! This can happen either inside or outside the classroom. 3:30-4pm

It’s time for pick-up! After a busy day together, children are given the space and time to explore and play in the activity centers on their own. Time: 4pm-Close

Group time

Group time happens every day in each of our classrooms. For toddlers, it’s their time to come together as a community, talk about the day, and hear a read-aloud

Meals and snacks

Every day, toddlers sit down to a meal with healthy fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. We never serve juice or fried foods!

Outdoor playtime

Our classes spend 20–30 minutes outside at least twice a day, weather permitting. Outdoor playtime is big-time fun for busy toddlers, as they build on their ever-growing physical skills.

Pre-K classroom activities

Every day, our creative teachers guide prekindergartners through fun activities that are just right for their age. Here are just a few examples!

Kids journal about states they have lived in and visited, and then discuss! We’ll also explore two- and three-dimensional shapes on state flags and the U.S. flag.

Kids identify numerals written in parking spaces drawn on paper. They park the cars in the right spaces based on the number a teachers says.

Kids create a story together using pieces of felt and a felt board.

Kids move through an outdoor obstacle course, learning to solve problems independently.
