Gifted & Talented Program

Ages: 3-5

Explore the GT classroom

“Gifted and talented student” means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience or environment and who:

  • exhibits high-performance capability in an intellectual, creative or artistic area;
  • possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or
  • excels in a specific academic field

Project-based learning

We take our child-led approach one step further in kindergarten. Working as a team, kids think creatively and critically to solve problems. This approach helps them develop collaboration and communication skills they’ll need in grade school.

Individual attention

This helps teachers adapt to each child’s learning style and keep track of their progress with regular assessments and family-teacher conferences.

Curriculum

GT Curriculum

The basic building blocks of reading / language (ELAR), writing, math, social studies, and science are key in kindergarten, so we make sure they get lots of practice in all of these areas. Our curriculum is rich in science and math concepts that help inspire children’s natural curiosity!

  • Uncover secret messages with code
  • Discover how to use technology to do amazing things

Calling all bookworms!

  • We grow to love books, words, and poetry
  • Discover the basics of letters and sound.

GT classroom activities

Every day, our creative teachers guide toddlers through fun activities that are just right for their age. Here are just a few examples!

DI offers an experience, customized for distance learning, through which—as one parent told us—kids find their superpowers. Working in teams to solve STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) Challenges, quiet children come alive. Kids who like things their way realize how much better their ideas are with input from their teammates. And if your child hasn’t found his or her niche yet? No problem. DI introduces kids to a wide range of ideas, skills, and techniques while solving Challenges their way.

“Is that a square or a circle?” Kids pull a paper shape from a shoebox, identify the shape out loud, glue it to butcher paper, and pass the box to the next person. Each shape has to touch a shape already on the paper!

Kids learn to read by exploring some of the 100 most frequently used words in books. These are called popcorn words and they include “and,” “a,” and “the.” The best part? We’ll use real-life popcorn to learn!

Cloudy with a chance of STEM skills! Kids discover how clouds hold moisture using dry and wet cotton balls, conduct experiments to learn about evaporation and condensation then students will show what happened with a playdough model.
